When selecting a rug for your dining room, there are several important considerations, including the size of your table and the yarn type of the rug.
You need to be sure to leave enough room so that when you push your chair away from the table, it stays on your area rug. This requires a minimum of 30 inches. More than 30 inches is certainly acceptable.
- Measure the top of your table.
- Add 2 1/2 feet (30 inches) to each side
- You will add a total of 5 feet to the width and length of the tabletop. For round tables, you also add 5 feet to the dimensions of your table top.
Either wool or synthetic yarns are acceptable, but some people find synthetic yarns smoother for chairs to slide on and easier to spot clean. Additionally, machine-made rugs are a great choice in your dining room or kitchen. If you are going to be sliding chairs in and out, they may be more durable than hand-knotted or hand-tufted rugs.
